Landscape Design in Lehi

Planning a Lehi yard as one piece

A lot of Lehi yards get built in pieces. A patio one year, a fence the next, then a pergola that does not line up with either. Each piece looks fine alone, but the yard never feels done. And on clay or on a slope, building in pieces often means tearing up last year's work to fix drainage or run a gas line you did not plan for.

A whole-yard design fixes that. We start with the ground. On the flats by Thanksgiving Point, that means planning drainage for heavy clay. On Traverse Mountain, it means terraces, walls and the hillside rules for slopes of 10 percent or more. Then we lay out patios, lawn, beds, shade, lighting and sprinklers so they work together, even if you build in phases.

Lehi's secondary water runs April 15 to October 15 and is metered now, so the plan also decides how much lawn makes sense and where low-water beds go. Our crew has built more than 200 projects across Utah County, and the same team that draws your plan builds it. Jackson stays on the job from the first walk to the final cleanup.

Lehi is two towns in one: bare new-build lots on clay down by Thanksgiving Point with an HOA clock ticking, and steep gravel benches up on Traverse Mountain that need engineered walls.

The Lehi challenges

Why Lehi yards need a real plan

Two kinds of ground in one town

A plant list that thrives on a gravelly Traverse Mountain bench can drown in clay down near the Jordan River. Lehi soil is alkaline almost everywhere, which yellows out plants that want acid soil. A design copied from a catalog or another state misses both.

Phases that fight each other

Many Lehi homeowners build over a few years. Without a plan, phase two often means cutting through a new patio to run power, or ripping out sod to fix grading. Pipe sleeves and final grades have to be set from day one.

HOA review before you dig

A lot of Lehi subdivisions want a landscape plan before work starts, and some have rules on lawn area, trees or rock. A drawn plan with clear notes gets through review faster than a rough sketch, and it gets built the way it was approved.

The J&H approach

How we design yards in Lehi

1 How we handle it

We walk the lot first

Jackson walks your yard and checks the soil, the slope, where water goes and where the sun lands. We ask how you use the yard: kids, dogs, parties, a quiet spot to read. The design comes from that, not from a template.

2 How we handle it

A plan you can build in stages

We draw the full yard, then split it into phases that fit your budget. Grading, drainage and pipe sleeves go in first so nothing later has to be torn up. Each phase finishes clean, so the yard looks done at every step.

3 How we handle it

Designed by the people who build it

There is no hand-off to a separate crew who never saw your lot. The people who drew the plan show up to build it, so the patio lands where it was drawn and the drains go where they were meant to go.

Lehi questions

Landscape Design in Lehi: what people ask

How much does landscape design cost in Lehi?
Design cost depends on yard size and how much detail the plan needs. A flat new-build backyard is simpler to plan than a terraced Traverse Mountain lot. Jackson gives you a written number for the design and the build before anything starts, so there are no surprises.
What plants do well in Lehi?
Lehi runs zone 6b to 7a with alkaline soil. Plants that handle high pH and dry summers do best, like many western shrubs, ornamental grasses and tough perennials. On the clay flats we pick plants that tolerate wet spring roots, and on the bench ones that like fast drainage. Tender plants wait until mid-May.
Can I build my design in phases?
Yes, and many Lehi families do. We set the order so the buried work goes in first: grading, drains, sprinkler mains and sleeves under future patios. Then each phase adds on without undoing the last one. Phasing is how a big plan fits a real budget.
Will you help with HOA approval?
Yes. We draw a plan with the details most HOA committees ask for, like plant types, materials and lawn area. If they send it back with notes, we adjust it. We also confirm any city requirements for walls or grading on Traverse Mountain lots.
