Sprinkler Repair in Highland

Highland water is canyon water

Highland's pressurized irrigation comes mostly from runoff out of American Fork Canyon, with Provo River water added later in the summer. It is not treated like drinking water, so it carries grit, sand and the odd bit of plant debris. That is why clogged filters and stuck heads are some of the most common sprinkler calls here. A system with no filter, or one nobody cleans, slowly chokes.

The schedule is set by the city. Water runs April 15 to October 15. Even addresses water Monday, Wednesday and Friday, odd addresses Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and nobody waters on Sunday so the storage can refill. Meters went in on the system in 2025, and tiered billing tied to your lot size is coming. A broken head on a big Highland lot will show up as money, not just a wet spot.

Big yards also mean long runs of pipe and lots of zones. A leak can hide for weeks under a far corner of the lawn. We find it, fix it and check the rest of the system while we are there, so you are not calling again two weeks later about the zone next to it. Highland's water is hard, too, so we look for scale on nozzles and drip emitters.

Highland is the big-lot town on the bench above Lehi and American Fork, where many lots are an acre or close to it, courts and horse areas share the yard, deer browse the gardens and every retaining wall goes through the city first.

Know your Highland ground

Elevation
About 4,876 feet
Ground
Lake Bonneville delta ground on the Highland bench, with gravelly pockets that drain fast next to silty pockets that hold water, and silty fan soil along the mountain edge
Secondary irrigation
Highland's pressurized irrigation runs April 15 to October 15 on even and odd days with no Sunday watering, the meters are in, and tiered billing is coming
Growing season
USDA zone 6a to 7a depending on the lot, last frost late April or later, since Highland sits higher than the valley floor
Wall permits
In Highland every retaining wall needs city approval, and a wall 4 feet or taller, or one carrying a surcharge, needs a building permit with a stamped engineered plan and a drainage plan

The Highland challenges

Common sprinkler problems in Highland

Grit from untreated canyon water

Pressurized irrigation in Highland is untreated runoff, so sand and debris reach your heads. Filters clog, nozzles plug and some heads stop popping up. We clean or replace filters, flush lines and swap worn nozzles. If your system has no filter, we add one.

Zones that run on the wrong day

With even and odd days and no Sunday watering, a controller set wrong can water on a day you are not allowed or skip one you are. We set the schedule to your address and the season, and show you how to change it yourself.

Leaks on a metered line

Now that the meters are in, a cracked pipe or a stuck valve is water you will pay for once tiered billing starts. On a large lot, a leak in a far zone can go unnoticed. Soggy spots, a hissing valve box or a bright green stripe in the lawn are the clues.

Frozen lines after a late blowout

Highland's water shuts off October 15, but cold can show up early on the bench. Lines left full of water can crack over the winter. We blow out the system with compressed air so nothing is sitting in the pipe when it freezes.

The J&H approach

How we fix sprinklers in Highland

1 How we handle it

Run every zone

We turn on each zone and watch it. Broken heads, low pressure, overspray onto the driveway and dry spots all show up fast. Then we know if it is one bad head or a bigger problem upstream.

2 How we handle it

Fix it and filter it

We repair or replace heads, nozzles, valves, pipe and wiring. On canyon-fed PI, we check the filter and clean it or add one. Clean water to the heads is what keeps them working all summer.

3 How we handle it

Set the controller right

We program your controller for your even or odd days, no Sundays, and the right run times for sun and shade. A smart controller can adjust for the weather on its own, and we can install one.

Highland questions

Sprinkler Repair in Highland: what people ask

Why do my Highland sprinkler heads keep clogging?
Highland's pressurized irrigation is untreated runoff from American Fork Canyon, so it carries sand and debris. A good filter at the start of the system catches most of it. If heads still clog, the filter may be full or missing. We check it, clean it and replace parts as needed.
What days can I water in Highland?
Even addresses water Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Odd addresses water Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Nobody waters on Sunday. The system runs April 15 to October 15. We set your controller to match and confirm current rules with the city each season.
Is metered PI billing already in effect?
The meters were finished in 2025, and the city says billing based on a base rate plus tiered usage is coming. Each lot gets a yearly allotment set by its size. You can already see your daily usage online, which is a handy way to spot a leak before the bill does.
When should I winterize my sprinklers in Highland?
The city turns off pressurized irrigation on October 15. Plan the blowout for right around then, before a hard freeze hits the bench. We blow out each zone with compressed air so no water sits in the lines over the winter.
