We landscape Springville yards from the Utah Lake flats up to the east bench under the Wasatch. Springville covers a lot of elevation, so a west-side yard and a bench view-lot are two different jobs, and we build for the one you have.

Landscaping in Springville

One Springville quote does not fit both sides of town

Springville, Art City, spreads from about 4,400 feet down by Utah Lake up past 5,600 feet on the east bench, one of the widest elevation spreads of any town in the county. That is not a detail. A yard on the west fields sits on heavy lakebed clay with slow drainage, while a bench lot up toward the canyon sits on gravelly, cobble-filled fan soil that drains fast and frosts later. The same plan does not work on both.

Hobble Creek runs right through the middle of town, and it has a real flood history, 1983 and again in February 2017, so along the creek bottoms the water table is high and drainage is the first thing we solve. Up on the bench, the deer come down off the Wasatch in winter and the canyon wind picks up, so the plant list and the layout change.

Springville runs its own city pressurized irrigation, on around April 15 and off around October 15, and the line pressure is high enough that most systems need a filter and a pressure reducer to keep from beating themselves up. We build for the ground, the water and the side of town your lot is actually on.

Springville spreads from about 4,400 feet by Utah Lake up past 5,600 feet on the east bench, runs its own city pressurized irrigation from roughly April 15 to October 15, and drains Hobble Creek and its 1983 and 2017 flood history right through the middle of town.

What Springville yards deal with

The local problems, and how we handle them

Two soils, two base playbooks

West-side clay is expansive and slow to drain; east-bench fan soil is fast-draining but full of cobbles. We over-excavate and drain the clay, and prep the bench base for the rock, so hardscape stays flat on either side of town.

Hobble Creek and a high water table

Along the creek bottoms the ground sits over shallow water, and the creek has flooded before. We grade and drain beds, patios and footings so water moves away from the house instead of pooling.

City secondary water, high pressure

Springville's pressurized irrigation runs roughly April 15 to October 15 at high line pressure. We set a filter and a pressure reducer so heads and drip do not blow out, and winterize the system before the first freeze.

Retaining walls over 4 feet, footing included, need a Springville permit and engineering, and east-bench lots can fall in the city's Hillside Overlay with added grading rules. We confirm current requirements with Springville Community Development on every job.

Planting that lasts here

Built for zone 6b to 7a, lake to bench

Springville runs USDA hardiness zone 6b to 7a, but the bench plants later than the valley floor, so up toward the canyon the safe window for tender plants is early-to-mid May. We match the planting to the elevation your lot actually sits at and amend the soil so it roots in fast.

On the east bench the winter deer are real, so we lean on plants they tend to leave alone up there, while a west-side yard can run a fuller palette. Either way we set the irrigation for the city's water season and pressure.

Neighborhoods we work

All over Springville

We build across Springville: the Hobble Creek corridor and Spring Creek through the middle of town, the east bench and Canyon Road toward Hobble Creek Canyon, the Art City downtown, and the west fields out toward Utah Lake.

Lakeside flat or bench view-lot, the first step is the same: we come look at your ground and give you an honest number in writing.

"Jackson and his crew did a phenomenal job on our back yard. I had a vision and they brought it to life. We had them do a retaining wall, grading, underground trampoline, sprinkler system, and sod. They met deadlines, communication was on point, and the whole crew was friendly.…"

Springville questions

What Springville homeowners ask us

Does Springville have secondary (pressurized) irrigation water?
Yes. Springville runs its own city pressurized irrigation, generally on around April 15 and off around October 15. The line pressure is high, so we set a filter and a pressure reducer so your heads and drip last, and we winterize the system before the first freeze.
My lot is on the east bench. Is it different from a west-side yard?
Very. The bench sits higher, on gravelly cobble fan soil that drains fast and frosts later, and the deer come down in winter. The west fields sit on heavy lakebed clay that drains slowly. We build a different plan for each, which is why one Springville quote does not fit both.
Do I need a permit for a retaining wall in Springville?
In Springville a retaining wall over 4 feet, footing included, needs a permit and engineering. East-bench lots can also fall in the city's Hillside Overlay with added grading rules. We handle it and confirm current requirements with the city.
My yard near Hobble Creek stays wet. Can you fix the drainage?
Yes, and it is a real Springville issue. The creek bottoms sit over a high water table and the creek has flooded before, so we grade and drain beds, patios and footings to move water away from the house instead of letting it pond.
