Backyard Remodel in Spanish Fork

A Spanish Fork backyard you can still sit in after dark

A premium backyard is mostly an evening place. You use it after work, after dinner, after the kids are in bed. In Spanish Fork that is right when the canyon wind picks up, steady out of Spanish Fork Canyon. So a big remodel here is not only about what you add. It is about where each piece sits, so the fire still burns, the shade stays up and the table does not get dusted.

The ground decides the rest. Much of Spanish Fork is Lake Bonneville silt, and near the river it gives way to alluvium. Pools, outdoor kitchens and big paver patios all add weight to that soil, and all of them need a base that will not heave in a freeze-thaw winter or settle in a wet spring. Down by the river, we often dig deeper still.

J&H has built 200+ projects across Utah County, and a backyard remodel pulls in most of what we do: hardscape, grading, walls, shade, lighting, sprinklers and planting. We plan it as one job with one schedule. Jackson walks the yard with you, we draw the plan, and the same crew builds it from the first dig to the final walk-through.

Spanish Fork has the biggest canyon airshed on the Wasatch Front, and the nightly downslope wind is the single thing an outside crew gets wrong here: it dries lawns and blows sprinkler spray right off target.

The Spanish Fork challenges

What a Spanish Fork remodel has to solve

Living space in the wind's path

People often want the patio, pool deck and fire area out in the middle of the yard with the view. In Spanish Fork the middle of the yard is where the downslope wind hits hardest. A remodel that ignores that ends up with a nice fire table nobody lights and a shade sail that comes down in a month.

Heavy features on soft ground

An outdoor kitchen with a stone counter, a pool, or a big boulder wall puts a lot of weight in one spot. On silt and river alluvium that weight needs a real footing. Otherwise the counter cracks at the seam and the pool coping pulls away from the deck.

Too many trades, no owner

A full remodel has a lot of trades: digging, utilities, concrete, carpentry, electrical, planting. Spread across separate contractors, the schedule slips and nobody owns the grade. On a flat Spanish Fork lot, one small grade mistake means water running toward the house.

Water after the remodel

A new yard needs new irrigation zones, and Spanish Fork's secondary water is only on from about April 15 to October 15. Planting laid out without the water plan in mind ends up with lawn heads spraying the patio furniture and beds that never get enough.

The J&H approach

How we run a Spanish Fork backyard remodel

1 How we handle it

Living areas in the lee

We put the main sitting and fire areas where the house, a wall or a pergola blocks the canyon wind. Then we use plantings and screens to make more calm corners. Open lawn and play space can take the exposed spots.

2 How we handle it

Bases for the heavy stuff

Outdoor kitchens, fire features and boulder walls get their own compacted footings. Pool decks and patios get a deep road-base section with drainage. Everything slopes away from the house, so the silt is not soaking up runoff next to your foundation.

3 How we handle it

One plan, one schedule

We draw the whole yard, then build it in an order that makes sense: grading and utilities first, then hardscape and structures, then sprinklers, lights and planting. You have one point of contact the whole way, and Jackson checks the work as it goes.

Spanish Fork questions

Backyard Remodel in Spanish Fork: what people ask

How long does a full backyard remodel take?
It depends on size and what is in it. A patio with fire and planting is a shorter job than a remodel with a pool, kitchen and pergola. We give you a schedule with the quote and build around Spanish Fork's weather, since concrete and planting both have seasons here.
Can you add a pool area to my remodel?
Pools are part of many premium remodels. We plan the pool area, the deck, the grading around it, the fencing and the planting so it all fits with the rest of the yard, and we confirm current permit and fence requirements for pools with Spanish Fork before we build.
Will my yard be torn up all summer?
Not all summer. We build in stages so the messy digging and concrete work happen early, and lawn and planting go in last. We keep a clear path to your doors while we work, and you will know each week what is coming next.

Your dream yard. Done right. Done on time.
