A lot of Utah County sits on a grade. We shape the ground and build walls that hold the hill, turn a slope into usable yard, and keep water moving the right way.

What we do

A wall is only as good as its drainage

Retaining walls fail for two reasons: no drainage behind them, and no engineering under them. Water builds up behind a wall with nowhere to go, freezes, and pushes the wall out. We build drainage into every wall so the water has a path, and we build to the load the wall actually has to hold.

Grading is the quieter half of the job and the more important one. Get the slope right and water runs away from the house and off the patio. Get it wrong and you are fighting a wet basement and a soggy yard for years.

Across Utah County, a retaining wall over four feet generally needs a permit and engineered plans. We keep the work on the right side of the code, and confirm the current rules with your city.

What this covers

Hold the hill, move the water

Retaining walls

Block, boulder and poured walls, sized to the slope and the load, with drainage built in behind every one.

Grading and drainage

Shaping the lot so water runs away from the house and off the hardscape, with swales and drains where the ground needs them.

Terracing and usable yard

Turning a steep, unusable slope into level, planted terraces you can actually walk out onto and use.

How it goes

Simple, and no surprises

1 Read the lot

We look at the slope and the water

We look at how the lot falls, where the water goes, and what the wall has to hold, then put an honest number in writing.

2 Engineer and permit

On the right side of the code

Where the wall needs engineered plans and a permit, we handle it and confirm current requirements with your city.

3 Build with drainage

The part that makes it last

We build the wall to the load, with drainage behind it, and grade the lot so water moves away from the house.

"Jackson and his crew did a phenomenal job on our back yard. I had a vision and they brought it to life. We had them do a retaining wall, grading, underground trampoline, sprinkler system, and sod. They met deadlines, communication was on point, and the whole crew was friendly.…"

Questions

Retaining wall questions we hear a lot

Do I need a permit for a retaining wall?
Across most of Utah County, a retaining wall over four feet, measured from the bottom of the footing, needs a permit and engineered plans. Under four feet usually does not, unless it is holding back a slope or driveway load above it. We confirm the current rules with your city on every job.
Why do retaining walls fail?
Two reasons: no drainage and no engineering. Water builds up behind the wall, freezes, and pushes it out. We build drainage into every wall and size it to the load it actually holds.
Can you turn my slope into usable yard?
Yes, that is a lot of what we do. Terracing and grading can turn a steep, wasted slope into level, planted space you can walk out onto and use.
Block, boulder or poured wall?
It depends on the height, the look and the load. Boulder walls read natural, block is clean and modular, poured is the strongest for tall engineered walls. We will match it to your lot.
