Backyard Rebuild in Spanish Fork

When a Spanish Fork yard is past patching

Some yards are past saving one patch at a time. The patio has sunk, the lawn has dead strips, the wall leans, and water stands by the back door every spring. In Spanish Fork that pattern almost always traces back to the same causes: flat grading on Lake Bonneville silt, a sprinkler system never set up for the canyon wind, and a thin base under the hardscape.

Patching one of those just moves the problem. Fix the patio without fixing the grade, and the new pavers sink in the same low spot. Replace the sod without fixing the spray, and the same strip dies by August. That is why we suggest a full rebuild when three or four things are failing at once. We would rather tell you that up front than sell you a patch that fails again.

A rebuild means we take the yard down to dirt. We pull the old sod, broken pavers, failing wall block and old pipe, then regrade the whole lot so water runs away from the house. New drainage, a new sprinkler system, new hardscape on a real base and new planting go back in, built as one job by one crew that answers to Jackson.

Spanish Fork has the biggest canyon airshed on the Wasatch Front, and the nightly downslope wind is the single thing an outside crew gets wrong here: it dries lawns and blows sprinkler spray right off target.

The Spanish Fork challenges

Why Spanish Fork yards wear out

Grading that tipped toward the house

Many older Spanish Fork yards were graded by eye, and over the years the soil settled. Now the yard tips back toward the foundation. Water runs to the house, soaks into the silt and freezes there. A new patio laid on top of that grade just hides it for a while.

Old sprinklers, wrong for the wind

Older systems were laid out with fine spray heads and too few zones. In the nightly canyon wind they leave dry strips and soggy corners. The pipe has been patched and re-patched. Chasing coverage on a tired system usually costs more over a few years than replacing it.

Hardscape on a thin base

Sunken pavers and cracked concrete in Spanish Fork usually sit on a base that was too thin for silt. Frost lifts it, the thaw drops it, and the joints open. You cannot fix that from the top. The old base has to come out.

Mature trees worth saving

A rebuild does not have to clear everything. A big shade tree on the windward side of a Spanish Fork lot is worth a lot, and it took decades to grow. Heavy equipment over its roots can kill it in two seasons, so we plan the work around the trees you want to keep.

The J&H approach

How we rebuild a Spanish Fork backyard

1 How we handle it

Strip it and start clean

We remove sod, failing hardscape, old wall block and old irrigation, and haul it off. Then we can see the real ground: where the silt is soft, where water has been sitting, and where the old grade went wrong.

2 How we handle it

Regrade and drain the whole lot

We set a new grade with a laser so every part of the yard falls away from the house. Where the ground is too flat to move water on its own, we add swales, drain lines or a dry creek bed to carry it off the lot.

3 How we handle it

Rebuild in the right order

Drains and sprinkler mains go in first, then walls and hardscape on deep compacted base, then topsoil, sod, planting and lights. The new sprinkler system is zoned for the canyon wind and runs on the city's free smart controller.

Spanish Fork questions

Backyard Rebuild in Spanish Fork: what people ask

How do I know if I need a rebuild instead of a repair?
If one thing is wrong, repair it. If the patio is sinking, the lawn has dead strips and water pools by the house all at once, the cause is usually underneath, in the grade and the base. Jackson can walk your Spanish Fork yard and tell you which one you have.
Can you keep my trees during a rebuild?
Usually, yes. We fence off the root zone, keep equipment out of it, and hand-dig near big roots. A healthy mature tree is worth saving, especially one that already blocks the canyon wind for your patio and house.
Will a rebuild fix the water by my back door?
That is usually the main goal. We regrade so the ground falls away from the foundation, add drains where the silt will not move water fast enough, and make sure downspouts empty into something that carries water away from the house.

Your dream yard. Done right. Done on time.
