Sprinkler Repair in Vineyard

Your lawn drinks city water here

In Provo or Lehi, most yards water off a separate secondary system. Vineyard is different. The city runs pressurized irrigation only for certain institutional properties, so most homes water the lawn from the same metered drinking water that comes out of the kitchen tap. Vineyard has used water meters since 2008, and every broken head or stuck valve shows up on your bill.

That also means there is no city on and off date for your sprinklers. The water is there year round. You decide when to start up in spring and when to blow out in fall, and the weather sets the timing. The last spring frost here usually lands in late April, and the first fall frost often comes in mid-October. Run lines full past that and you risk cracked parts.

The city says it has some of the lowest water use per person in Utah, and about 95 percent of its supply comes from snowpack. That is a good reason to run a tight system. We fix the leaks, then tune it: matched nozzles, cycle-and-soak for slow lake soil, drip in the beds and a smart controller that follows the weather.

Vineyard is the young town on the lake: flat, newer lots on silty ground by Utah Lake, mostly watered with metered city water, where the job is making a smaller yard work hard.

The Vineyard challenges

Sprinkler problems we fix in Vineyard

Leaks you pay for

A cracked lateral or a valve that will not close can run for weeks before a soggy spot shows up. On a metered city line you pay for all of it, and the wet patch on lake silt can take days to dry. We track it down zone by zone.

Runoff from long cycles

Silty soil takes water in slowly. A long single run puts water down faster than the ground can drink it, and the rest heads down the gutter. Short cycles with a soak time between them get more water to the roots for less money.

Spray on narrow strips

Park strips and skinny side yards are hard to water with spray heads. Much of the water hits the sidewalk, the fence or the house. Drip or a water-wise planting in those spots cuts the waste, and state law keeps HOAs from requiring lawn in strips under 8 feet wide.

Pipes nicked by other work

Every new fence post, gas line and patio on a young Vineyard lot is a chance to nick a sprinkler pipe. The damage often hides underground until a zone loses pressure or a wet spot will not dry. A pressure test on each zone finds it.

The J&H approach

How we handle sprinklers in Vineyard

1 How we handle it

Find and fix the waste

We run every zone and look for broken heads, mixed nozzles, low pressure and leaks. You get a list of what is wrong and what it costs to fix before we start any work, so there are no surprises on the invoice.

2 How we handle it

Set it up for lake soil

We match nozzles head to head, set cycle-and-soak for slow-draining silt and move beds and trees to drip. A smart controller adjusts run times for heat and rain so you are not watering through a storm.

3 How we handle it

Startups and blowouts on your timing

With no secondary shutoff date to work around, we schedule startups after the hard frosts are past and blow lines out before the first hard freeze. Backflow parts get drained so the cold does not crack them.

Vineyard questions

Sprinkler Repair in Vineyard: what people ask

When should I turn my sprinklers on in Vineyard?
Most Vineyard homes run sprinklers on city water, so there is no secondary start date to wait for. We usually start systems once the late-April frost risk passes. The state's weekly lawn watering guide, linked from the city's water page, is a good way to judge when the grass really needs it.
Why is my Vineyard water bill so high in summer?
Your lawn runs on metered city water, so every gallon counts. Common causes are a valve that never fully closes, a broken head running all night, long cycles that run off and a controller still set for July in May. We find the cause and fix it.
Are there rebates for smart controllers or lawn swaps?
Vineyard's water conservation page points homeowners to the Central Utah Water Conservancy District rebate program. What you qualify for can change, so we check the current programs with you before we price the job, and we never promise a rebate we have not confirmed.
