What we do

The base is the whole job

Hardscape is easy to sell and easy to get wrong. The finished pavers look great on day one no matter what is under them. The difference shows up two winters later, when the patio that skipped the base prep starts to settle, tilt and separate.

Utah's Lake Bonneville clay moves when it gets wet and heaves with freeze and thaw, so the base under a patio or a wall matters more here than almost anywhere. We excavate, compact and build the sub-base for that clay before a single paver goes down.

Do that right, and the patio you pay for is the patio you have in ten years.

What hardscaping covers

Built to stay flat

Patios and walkways

Pavers, stamped concrete and natural stone, laid on a compacted base with clean, tight joints that hold their line.

Fire features and seat walls

Fire pits, fireplaces and seat walls that turn a patio into a place people actually gather, built into the design instead of set on top of it.

Outdoor kitchens and steps

Counters, grills, steps and landings, sized and set so the whole space works together and drains the right way.

How it goes

Simple, and no surprises

1 Walk it

We look at the space with you

We look at the slope, the drainage and how you want to use the space, then put an honest number in writing.

2 Prep the base

The part you cannot see

We excavate and compact the sub-base for Utah clay. This is the step that separates hardscape that lasts from hardscape that settles.

3 Build and finish

Clean lines, done right

We set the hardscape, tighten the joints, and leave the site clean. It looks right on day one and stays flat after.

Questions

Hardscaping questions we hear a lot

Why do so many patios settle or crack?
Almost always the base. Utah's clay moves and heaves with freeze and thaw, so a patio set on un-compacted or un-prepped ground shifts. We build the sub-base for the clay first, which is the part that lasts.
Pavers or stamped concrete?
Both work, and it depends on the look and the budget. Pavers flex with the ground and are easy to repair; stamped concrete is one continuous surface. We will walk you through the trade-offs for your yard.
Can you build a fire pit or outdoor kitchen?
Yes. Fire pits, fireplaces, seat walls and full outdoor kitchens, built into the hardscape design so they look like part of the yard, not an add-on.
Do you fix drainage while you are at it?
Yes, and we should. We grade and set the hardscape so water runs away from the house, because a patio that ponds or sends water at the foundation is a problem no matter how it looks.
