Topsoil and Materials in Lindon

Soil by the truckload in Lindon

On a big Lindon lot, soil and rock come by the truckload, not the bag. A former-orchard yard can need a lot of material to cover lawn areas, fill beds and top dress with rock or mulch. That makes measuring right a real money question. Order short and you pay for another delivery. Order way over and you pay to haul the extra away.

What you need depends on where you live in Lindon. Down by the Marina, native ground is heavy lakebed clay that seals up and drains slowly. Through the orchard flats in the middle of town, some yards already have decent soil, and we may only need to amend it. Up on the bench, the soil turns coarse and rocky and dries out fast. So one quote does not fit the whole town.

We look at your ground first, then deliver and spread screened topsoil, landscape rock, bark mulch, fill or road base. We spread it to grade, not just dump it in a pile, and clean up before we leave. If your existing soil is good, we will tell you so instead of selling you a load you do not need. That happens on the orchard flats more often than people think.

Lindon still has that little-bit-of-country feel, which usually means bigger former-orchard lots, more yard to design and water, and old ag ground to work around.

The Lindon challenges

Soil problems on Lindon lots

Clay that seals under new soil

Topsoil laid right on top of Marina clay creates a layer where water stops and pools. Roots stay shallow above it and the lawn dries out in heat, even with the sprinklers running. The clay has to be broken up first so the two layers blend at the line.

Big areas mean big quantities

On a large lot, a one inch error in depth across a big lawn is a lot of extra soil, or a lot of missing soil. We measure each area and set the depth for its use, so you pay for what actually goes on the ground.

Coarse soil on the bench

Bench yards under Timpanogos drain fast. A thin layer of topsoil dries out in summer heat and plants struggle. Those areas need deeper soil with compost mixed in to hold water between sprinkler cycles. A layer of mulch on top slows the drying too.

The J&H approach

How we deliver and spread in Lindon

1 How we handle it

Measure first, then order

We measure lawns, beds and rock areas, set depths and order the right amount of each material. On a big Lindon lot, getting the quantities right can save more than any discount on price per yard.

2 How we handle it

Prepare the ground underneath

We rip or till the clay, pull rock on the bench and loosen compacted areas before new soil goes down. Under patios and walks, we lay road base in thin lifts and compact each one so the surface stays flat.

3 How we handle it

The right cover for each spot

Heavy rock stays put on slopes. Bark mulch keeps beds cool and builds soil over time. On a big lot we often mix them: mulch in the planting beds near the house, rock on the far edges where it needs less care.

Lindon questions

Topsoil and Materials in Lindon: what people ask

Do I need new topsoil on an older Lindon lot?
Not always. Some orchard-flat yards have decent soil that just needs compost and loosening. Near the Marina, the clay usually needs help, and on the bench we often add topsoil for depth. We look at your ground first and give you an honest answer before you buy anything.
How much material does a big lot need?
It depends on the areas and their use. Lawn needs a few inches of good topsoil, beds need more, and rock areas need less. We measure your Lindon lot and give you a written quote with the exact amounts, so there is no guessing on delivery day.
Can you deliver without spreading?
We can, but most people find spreading is the hard part. Moving a big pile across a large yard by wheelbarrow takes days. We spread it to grade with the right equipment, so the yard is ready for sod or planting when we pull out.

Your dream yard. Done right. Done on time.
