What we do

What is under the turf decides how it looks

Most turf problems in Utah County start underground. On the valley floor, Lake Bonneville clay holds water and barely lets it through, so turf laid on it puddles, stays soggy and can start to smell. Up on the bench, the gravel drains fast but it is loose and rocky, and it shifts if nobody packs it. We dig out the old lawn, fix the grade, and build a packed gravel base for the ground you actually have. Then water goes down and away, not across your patio.

Winters here are hard on a yard. Water that sits in the base freezes, swells and lifts the turf, then it settles uneven in spring. A base that drains is what keeps it flat. Summer is the other problem. In July, turf in full sun gets hot enough that you will not want bare feet on it. We talk with you about shade, turf color and fiber, infill choices that can help, and a quick hose rinse before the kids head out. It still gets warm, and we will tell you that up front.

Turf can be a smart part of a water-wise yard. It works best where grass was a fight to keep alive anyway: the narrow side yard, the steep strip by the driveway, the dog run, the play area. Most yards look better with turf next to real planting beds on drip than with plastic grass wall to wall. Cities and HOAs set their own rules on turf, and those rules change. We confirm the current city and HOA rules for your address before we plan anything.

What turf covers

Turf picked for how you use the yard

Lawn replacement

We pull the old sod, cap the sprinkler lines that fed it, fix the grade, and lay turf that sits right next to your beds, patio and real plants.

Putting greens

A putting green is only as true as the base under it. We shape and pack it smooth, then add fringe, cups and a little slope if you want putts that break.

Pet areas

For dogs, drainage is everything. We build a base that lets urine wash through, use an infill made for pets, and set it up so a hose rinse keeps odor down.

Play areas and court surrounds

Soft, tough turf for play sets and around pickleball and sport courts, with a shock pad under play equipment if you want one and clean edges where turf meets the court.

How it goes

Simple, and no surprises

1 Walk it

We look at the ground and how you use it

We check the soil, the slope, the sun and who will use the space (kids, dogs, a golfer), confirm the current city and HOA rules, then put an honest number in writing.

2 Build the base

Dig, grade and pack

We dig out the old lawn, grade it so water moves away from the house, and pack a gravel base in layers so it drains and stays flat through freeze and thaw.

3 Lay and finish

Seams and edges that hold

We lay every piece with the grain running the same way, tape and glue the seams, fasten the edges to a solid border so they cannot curl, brush in the infill, and clean up.

"Jackson and his crew did a phenomenal job on our back yard. I had a vision and they brought it to life. We had them do a retaining wall, grading, underground trampoline, sprinkler system, and sod. They met deadlines, communication was on point, and the whole crew was friendly.…"

Questions

Turf questions we hear a lot

Will turf get hot in the summer?
Yes. Turf in full afternoon sun gets a lot hotter than grass, and that is true of every brand. Shade from a tree or a pergola helps the most. Lighter colors, some fibers and some infills help a little. A quick rinse with the hose cools it down fast before the kids or the dog go out. We will help you put turf where the heat makes sense.
Is turf good for dogs?
It can be, if it is built for them. The base has to drain fast so urine goes down instead of sitting on top, and the infill should be one made for pets that helps hold down odor. You will still pick up after the dog and rinse its favorite spot with a hose now and then, more often in the heat of summer.
Can I put turf in my front yard?
It depends on your city and your HOA. Some limit how much of the yard can be turf, what has to be planted around it, or what needs approval before work starts. Those rules change, so we confirm the current city and HOA rules for your address before we draw up the plan. That way you are not tearing anything out later.
Why do some turf jobs look fake or come apart?
Usually it is the seams and the edges. If the pieces are not laid with the grain running the same way, the seams show from the patio. If the edges are not fastened to a solid border, they curl and lift after a winter or two. We take our time on both, because those are the spots you see every day.
