Artificial Turf in Lindon

Getting turf right in Lindon

On a bigger Lindon lot, there is often a stretch of lawn that eats water and gets little use. A side yard, a strip along the drive, the far corner behind the shed. Those are the spots where turf makes the most sense. You stop mowing them, stop fighting brown patches and stop paying to water ground nobody walks on. The lawn you actually play on can stay real grass.

The hard part is what goes under it. Down near the Lindon Marina, lakebed clay holds water like a bowl. Turf drains through its backing, so if the base below cannot move that water off, it just sits there. Pet areas start to smell and the surface gets lumpy. On the bench, water drains better, but a slope needs a base that stays put and does not creep downhill over time.

Summer heat matters too. Turf in full sun gets much hotter than grass, so we think about where kids and dogs will play and what shade is close by. Rules can change, and HOAs often have their own. We confirm current city rules with Lindon and check with your HOA before we order turf or give you a final price.

Lindon still has that little-bit-of-country feel, which usually means bigger former-orchard lots, more yard to design and water, and old ag ground to work around.

The Lindon challenges

Lindon turf challenges to plan for

Lakebed clay under the base

Clay near the lake does not let water soak down. Turf on a thin base over it stays damp underneath, and in winter that wet base can freeze and heave. You see it in spring as bumps and soft spots that were not there in the fall.

Dogs on a big yard

Lots of Lindon families have dogs with room to run. A dog area on turf only works if urine drains through and out of the base fast. On a poor base, the smell builds all summer, and no spray fixes a base that holds water.

Heat in open sun

Turf in full summer sun can get too hot for bare feet in the afternoon, and bigger Lindon lots often have open stretches with no shade. Placing turf near trees or a pergola, picking a lighter infill and keeping a hose handy all make it easier to use on hot days.

Turf on a bench slope

On the Lindon bench, turf often goes on a slope where grass was hard to water. The base on a slope has to be keyed in and packed so it does not slide, and the edges have to be anchored. If not, the turf slowly bunches up at the bottom.

The J&H approach

How we install turf in Lindon

1 How we handle it

A base built to drain

We strip the old sod and soft soil, then lay a packed rock base sized for your ground. Near the Marina that means a deeper base with a way for water to leave. On bench slopes we key the base into the hill and pack it in layers.

2 How we handle it

Turf and infill for the job

A dog run, a putting green and a play lawn each want a different turf. We match the turf and infill to how you will use the space, and we tell you plainly how each option handles heat and pets before you choose.

3 How we handle it

Clean edges and capped heads

We anchor every edge and seam so the turf stays flat. Old sprinkler heads in the turf area get capped or moved to water the beds. Next to a sport court, we fit the turf tight to the slab so the two read as one finished space.

Lindon questions

Artificial Turf in Lindon: what people ask

Can I put turf in my Lindon front yard?
Maybe. It depends on current city rules and on your HOA, if you have one. We check both before we quote, so you know where turf can go on your lot and you do not get a letter after it is already in.
Will turf hurt my older trees?
It can if it is laid right over their roots with a deep packed base. Tree roots need water and air, and a packed base cuts off both. We keep turf back from mature trees and leave a mulch ring, so the trees you already have stay healthy.
Is turf a good fit around a backyard court?
Yes. Turf around a court stays clean, so you do not track grass or mud onto the playing surface. We set the turf edge flush with the slab and pick a short pile that will not trip players chasing a ball off the side.
Do I still need sprinklers with turf?
Not for the turf itself. You may want a hose bib or a small spray zone to rinse a dog area or cool the surface on hot days. Every bed and tree around the turf still needs water, so we rework those zones while we are there.
