Artificial Turf in American Fork

Turf on American Fork ground

Turf makes sense in a lot of American Fork yards. The city meters its pressurized irrigation and is phasing in tiered rates based on lot size and use, so every square foot of thirsty lawn costs more as the years go by. Turf takes water off the spots where grass struggles anyway: narrow side yards, park strips, dog runs and the edge around a court.

The catch is drainage. Turf has to let water and pet urine through, and the base under it has to move that water away. On the lakebed silt and clay that covers much of town, water drains slowly, so a thin base turns into a wet, smelly layer by the second summer. We dig deeper there and give the water a way out.

Before you swap lawn for turf, check the rebate rules. American Fork is on the Utah Water Savers list for lawn replacement, and work cannot start before the program's pre-inspection. The program has its own rules on what counts as a water-wise swap, and they can change, so we confirm current terms, city rules and your HOA before we price the job.

American Fork sits at the foot of Timpanogos where the river comes out of the canyon, so one town runs from soft lakebed silt that ponds and settles on the flats to boulder ground at the canyon mouth, all watered on the city's metered PI schedule.

Ground
Lake Bonneville silt and clay on the flat plain that settles and ponds, river gravel under it at depths that vary, and boulder-rich fan ground at the mountain front
Secondary irrigation
American Fork runs its own metered pressurized irrigation from April 15 to October 15, with even and odd watering days that the city adjusts in dry years

USDA zone 6a to 7a, depending on the lot, last frost around late April
Wall permits
In American Fork any fence or wall over 48 inches needs a plan and a permit from the Building Division (City Code 17.5.115), and lots on the city's hazard map can need a soils report

The American Fork challenges

Turf problems we solve in American Fork

Slow-draining silt under the base

Silt and clay hold water. If the turf base sits in a bowl of native soil, rain and urine collect under it with nowhere to go. We dig the base deeper on these lots and add a drain path where the yard needs one.

Summer heat on the surface

Turf gets hot in July sun. Lighter colors, a cooling infill and shade from a tree or a pergola all help. When we can, we put play and pet areas where they get shade in the afternoon, when the surface is hottest.

Pets and odor

Dog areas need a base that drains fast and an infill that fights odor. A quick hose rinse on hot days helps too. We build pet runs with that in mind, with a deeper base and a way out for the water, not as a plain patch of turf.

Seams and edges

Poor seams show, and they lift over time. Loose edges let weeds creep in. We glue seams, fasten edges to a solid border and lay every piece so the grain runs the same way. Done right, you have to hunt to find where two rolls meet.

The J&H approach

How we install turf in American Fork

1 How we handle it

Dig and prep the base

We take out the old lawn and soft soil, add a compacted base and set the grade so water drains away from the house. On silt we go deeper and plan where the water will leave the base.

2 How we handle it

Pick the right turf

Different turf works for play, pets, putting or just looks. We bring samples so you can feel them and see them in your own yard light before you choose one. Dogs and kids are hard on cheap turf, so we tell you which ones hold up.

3 How we handle it

Install clean and tight

We roll out, seam and fasten the turf, then brush in the infill. Edges tie into pavers, curbing or rock so the finished turf looks like it belongs in your yard. We clean up and haul off the old sod before we leave.

American Fork questions

Artificial Turf in American Fork: what people ask

Can I get a rebate for replacing lawn with turf in American Fork?
Utah Water Savers counts American Fork as eligible for lawn replacement. The program sets its own rules on what qualifies, and work cannot start before the pre-inspection. We check the current terms with you before we tear anything out.
Is turf allowed in my neighborhood?
That depends on current city rules and your HOA. Newer neighborhoods near I-15 and the FrontRunner station often have HOA rules on front yards. We confirm both for your lot before we price the job, so you do not have to rip anything out later.
Can you put turf around a sport court?
Yes. Turf around a court keeps mud off the slab and means no mowing along the fence line. We set it on a firm base and tie the edges into the court border so it stays tight for years.
Does turf need any water?
It does not need regular watering. Pet areas need a rinse now and then, and a quick spray can cool the surface on the hottest days. On a metered PI line, that is far less water than a lawn uses on its watering days.

Your dream yard. Done right. Done on time.
