Custom Landscape Designers
A nice drawing is easy. A drawing that still works three summers later in Eagle Mountain is harder. The designer has to know if you are in the Ranches or near City Center, how the wind hits your lot and what the city's water-wise rules allow on a newer home. Miss any of those and the plan looks great on paper and struggles in the ground.
The city's own water numbers explain why it matters. Outdoor use runs about 106 gallons per person per day, against about 62 indoors, and a 2022 USU study found residents watering lawns about twice as much as needed. A custom design is your best chance to change that, with lawn where it gets used and drip beds everywhere else.
This guide covers what to look for in a designer, the design mistakes that cost Eagle Mountain homeowners later and the questions worth asking. Then it shows how our design-build process works, where the people who draw the plan also build it, so the details survive the trip from paper to dirt.
What to look for
USU notes some Eagle Mountain sites behave like zone 4b to 5b because cold air pools there, even though the map says 6a to 7a. Ask how the designer picks plants for your exact spot, and look for alkaline-tolerant, wind-tough choices.
A designer should know the city limits lawn on new yards, wants drip on beds and asks for drought-tolerant trees and shrubs. Ask how the plan handles those rules and if they confirm the current version with the city.
With the front yard due in one year and the back in two for new homes, many owners build in steps. Ask if the plan shows phases and where the sprinkler mains and sleeves go, so later work does not tear up earlier work.
A beautiful plan you cannot afford is wasted money. Ask if the design comes with a written price, and if the designer will adjust the plan to hit your budget instead of handing you a wish list.
What goes wrong in Eagle Mountain
Some plans use plants that look great in a catalog but cannot handle City Center nights or a growing season near 95 days. They die in the first winter or two, and the yard never fills in the way the drawing showed.
A design with grass from fence to fence ignores both the city's lawn limits for new yards and your water bill. On a newer home it can also mean tearing some of it out later if the yard does not meet the rules.
A plan with open patios, light bark and unstaked trees can look calm on paper. Then April comes. Bark ends up in the street and the young trees lean east. If the designer never asked you about wind, the plan was not drawn for Eagle Mountain.
