“We would absolutely hire this team again and recommend them to anyone looking for landscaping help.”
Commercial Landscaping Services
Cedar Hills is mostly a town of homes, but it has its share of shared and commercial ground: the Gateway retail area on Cedar Hills Drive, HOA common areas, townhome projects and other managed sites. Each one has a board, an owner or a manager who needs the site to look good, pass city review and not burn through water.
Water is the big change. The city has been replacing grass on roundabouts and planters, including on Cedar Hills Drive, with hardscape and localscape, and it allows drought-tolerant designs in park strips and commercial areas. Secondary water is billed by use on a tiered rate. A commercial site with a lot of thirsty turf running on old zones feels that change on every monthly bill.
This guide covers what to look for in a commercial landscaper here, the shortcuts that cost property owners and what to ask. Then it shows how J&H compares. We do not list clients we have not served, and the proof we point to is the kind any board member can check.
What to look for
Ask for a scope that lists every part of the project: tear-out, grading, sprinkler work, planting, hardscape and cleanup. A vague scope means arguments later about what was included. Boards need it in writing before they can vote.
Ask how they handle large irrigation systems on metered water. Look for zone-by-zone planning, drip in beds, smart controllers and regular filter cleaning, since the city's untreated secondary water clogs big systems just like small ones.
Commercial and HOA sites often have walls, fences and paved areas that need city review. Ask who prepares the site plan and who handles the installation permits. A contractor who leaves that to the property manager adds work to your plate.
Retail and multifamily sites stay open while work happens. Ask how they phase the job, keep walks clear and protect parking and entrances. A good contractor plans the noisy work around business hours and leaves the site clean each day.
What goes wrong in Cedar Hills
Commercial bids get compared on price alone more than they should. The low bid often leaves out base depth, sprinkler upgrades or replacing plants that die. Line bids up item by item before a board votes on any of them.
Turf on steep banks, narrow strips and park strips wastes metered water and looks rough by August. Cedar Hills has been moving its own planters and roundabouts away from that. A contractor who suggests more turf in those spots is behind the times.
On a sloped commercial or HOA site, a wall that fails can take out a walk or a parking area. Any wall needs a permit here, and walls over 4 feet need an engineer. Skipping that to save time puts the liability on the owner.
